Darn unfortunate that the real Dauntless didn't have bumps on the cowl sides. What WERE they thinking.  Angry

This plane is enormous Steve, and gorgeous too (
notice the poetry?

Steve,
How many servos for the flaps?
Do they use a can arm system to engage flap/dive brake function?
Can't wait to see it. You'll be be able to fly away from yourself for ten minutes and still see it!

One servo on each wing for the dive brakes and one for the main center flap, Dan.

The dive brake servo runs two pushrods - one up and one down. Dive brakes extend up and down 80mm (yup, just over three inches  Smiley). I have a feeling it would not be a good idea, either in the model or the real thing, to extend them at high speed. The last thing you see may be the wings tearing off.  Grin Grin Grin

Remember the real one Steve, it was pulled nose up into a stall then dropped into a 70 deg dive... Margaree Night

Ok, having a serious senior's moment...

I know I need to remove the center wing one more time before I put a bit of lock-tite on the bolts to do something but I can't remember why.  Cheesy I know if I go ahead, I remember what it was in about two weeks. Darn grey hair...

Need some advice from the scale gurus...

I need to get a small amount of touchup paint for the Dauntless. Mainly hanger rash but I wouldn't mind painting the gear also. Prefer something easy, odorless etc. Lots of options at the hobby shop but I don't know one from the other. Need three different colours.

I'd go for the acrylic paints Steve. Relatively odourless, easy to work with, dry fast....Tamiya I think?

Thanks, Sandy.

Of course, the other option is to leave it like it is and brag to everyone about the incredible effort I went to so I could achieve a truly scale look.  Wink Grin Wink

Well Doh! Touch the "spots" with a tiny brush and tad of aluminium paint, instant weathering..

Steve
Al the paint's work well, with gas you don't have it attacking the paint like nitro.
I usually don't care what brand, I pick by how closely they match.

Well, thanks to an extremely talented and innovative small engine mechanic and machinist (thanks again, Al), the big hunk of metal at the front of the Dauntless now goes "putt-putt" and the spinny thing spins.

Got my new legs for the Dauntless from BigPlanes in the Netherlands. Hopefully, they'll stand up to my trademark landing  - a 35 pound plane impacting the ground at 80 miles per hour. Smiley

Neat control box too - it will control retracts, brakes and has rudder input for differential braking. Has it's own battery input - a 2S 900 mah pack is good for about 25 retract sequences.
