In thinking the Thunderbird scheme would be the way to go for the finish?

I recommend CA thin and CA medium for most of the construction. Also, 30 minute Epoxy for wing joints, firewall,etc. You could thin down the epoxy to paint the engine compartment for fuel proofing. Just cleaning out the Garage/workshop/toyshop snr. Al.....
seems like ill need a gross of xacto blades, better preflight the bandsaw...

Or you can try what I do, 3M-77 contact cement. If you want to try the 3M-77 it will be a bunch lighter. Too much to say here on that. Give me a call and I'll give you the info.

I had one as well Al, but mine was vintage '79 (that's 19.. not 18.. you bunch of .....). didn't get a lot of mileage on it; didn't land any better back then Angry

Did get a lot of mile of Mike Pothier's. He had one painted in epoxy camoflage and it weighed high side of 10 pounds. Still flew like a Kougar tho.

Mine was a hand me down from bernie leroux and was pretty tattered when I got it. Cowl was gone. The canopy was just a windscreen with a ping pong ball pilot with scarf blowing in the breeze. Great airplane, flew it for a long time and hundreds of flights.

Once at Maragree I had it parked beside a fence there and at some point the fence fell over and crushed poor little ping pong man. After all that poor sucker had been through with Bernie and then me throwing him around the sky, a fence blown over by the wind took him out. lol

I have to recover my basement from the Garbage pile there, pickup was boxing day...

I agree sandy and was gonna comment same, but figured I'd better mind my own business. so since you have here goes....lol

the 60 would be too heavy on that plane, very nose heavy making some balance weight on the ass end necessary, all of which adds up to a heavier airplane and heavier does not fly better despite what some people might tell you.

mine had an os40 and you wouldn't need any more power than that, even if you were trevor. lol

I once was given an already heavy zero fighter 40 sized, and because of the short nose hard to balance. I screwed on a .60 and it balanced then, but man what a disaster that was. a dog, dog, dog, dog, very difficult in every way.

The ailerons would go right out to the end of the wing jack. You could have done it either way, having the wingtip enclose the ailerons, but since the wingtip blocks are already installed and shaped, the ailerons will be full length. It'll make no difference in flying.

just groove the blocks to allow the pieces to cover the torque rods, gluing carefully so as not to bind the torque rods with glue.

Likewise additional notches in the rear blocks at the horn location.

I think the holes are oversize, Roll Eyes

but the horns have plenty of movement.

I'm pretty well stuck now on the wings till I get the fuse built now, as there are some molding to the fuse that has to be done prior to covering. Cool

sheets.

Al, Should I start the firewall without receiving the engine yet, I think it might be handy to have it in the engine mount prior to drilling the firewall? Huh

The Evo .46NX should be here soon...

There is a note recommending checking the motor first...it fact there are a lot of notes Undecided

The only other thing to consider is the distance the muffler is off the engine. Wouldn't want the muffler into the side of the airplane. You may be better off waiting for the power plant to arrive.

Time to think about the fuel tank, sig doesn't mention the size, I have a 6, 8, and 10oz tank her the six has the front feed, which I like for service the 8 fits but would have to plum the fuel lines Tongue

the 10 looks too big to fit without modifying the bulkheads to get it in... 8 seems awful small for screeming round the circuit for 10 min Shocked

any thoughts guys Roll Eyes

Wow Jack; you are really moving your project along at a great pace. Looking at the pics does indeed bring back memories of my build so many years ago. As Sandy said, my model came in heavy, but that was mostly because I chose to paint it with epoxy...and because all of my planes come in heavy Roll Eyes
