Earl Inkpen Memorial Fun Fly at Porters Lake Field

on August 25, 2012 (rain date Aug 26)

Hi Folks,

Sorry for the short notice.  I had problems with trying to post this message and almost gave up.

Please mark these dates on your calendar. I'm pleased to announce that H.E.F.A. will be hosting this year's fun fly event at our Porters Lake Field (P.L.F.) on Aug 25 (rain date Aug 26). This event is open to all clubs and to anyone who has M.A.A.C. insurance for 2012. In order to fly, you must show your current M.A.A.C. card and have it on you.

For this year, we have named our event the "Earl Inkpen Memorial Fun Fly". An enthusiastic RC pilot, Earl was an active member of H.E.F.A. from the start of our club, who was always kind and helpful to everyone. When he wasn't in the air, he enjoyed watching everyone else fly while relaxing in the shade of Shannon Park's one tree near the pits, and chatting about our hobby.

The fun will commence at 9:30 AM, with a barbeque at noon. Your admission ticket includes a hotdog or hamburger with a drink and chips, and an entry in some prize draws.

Gas/glow and electric aircraft of all sizes are welcomed for this event -(except turbine jets). The beautiful full size grass airstrip is 2400' long with a section of hard packed crusher dust which will accommodate wheels of all sizes.

Fun Contests!
! (open to suggestions!)
Some of the fun will include:
-an off-the-rails high-speed Parkzone Stryker run
-spot landings
-timed flight pattern (eg..take off, do a loop, and spot land at the 60 second mark)
-climb-and-glide
-maybe even the dreaded, but oh so sweet limbo contest.
-Bomb Drop anyone???

If there is enough interest, we can even hold a "bomb drop" contest, whereby pilots drop a small nut with a streamer attached to it,(or something else- eg..plastic Easter eggs filled with baby powder - no pyrotechnics allowed) trying to get closest to the bullseye target.

Bring plenty of bug repellent, sun screen, plus your sun glasses and a chair. There will be a porta-potty on site. This promises to be a day of fun flying!

Admission: $5 at the door - no RSVP needed.

The event with driving directions is posted on the H.E.F.A. site:

Thanks,
Andrew Curran
