Seems that 4 years in the wet ground is a bout the limit for the sun shade timbers, especially when we have winds like we've been having lately..........

All fixable, but the timbers should be unscrewed so they lay flat to avoid bending/breaking the shade gear.

Last Wed nights wind storm was a doozy!
South wind which isn’t that common, blew a lot of neighbors shingles off his house and garage. Near my deer camp, blew a large testing site solar array down, bet that was costly. Heck even blew my wooden blind structure off the large rock it was on, been there 5 years year around and never moved before.
Not surprised it did damage at the field too.

Yup. Line up says South wind.

Wow, unbelievable the damage ....but the wood was getting ripe. Guess we are purchasing more wood than discussed at the AGM.

You must be referring to the original pressuring treating process Mike?
Todays safer environmental formula doesn’t offer much more rot protection over untreated when wood is below grade. I believe that pressure treated 4x4’s were used on the original structure.
The erosion from string trimming likely was a big contributing factor as well.

Exactly. Dave took a good look and is sure the ground level of the posts had been hacked at by the snipper until it was through the "treatment".

We'll have to have a good "think" on how to protect them. Dave and I have had some preliminary thoughts.

HI, you the same idea, people use to stop critters climbing up to  bird nest on pole   put  5in stove pipe on the bottom 10in of the post to protect them , and or you could use weeping tile like some people use to protect trees from the same issues

We're thinking of larger ABS like already  used around the fence posts.

I have a proposal for awning repairs. The photo is a rough scale of 1” equal to 1 foot of wood length. So with a 15’ base of a 2X8 and A frame sides of 4X4 of 12 foot lengths this would provide a head clearance of approx. 9 foot. The cross member (2X8) between the two A frames would be of a length that would allow for the attachment of the awning assembly. I would also suggest that 4 each 8X8 beams be bolted under the base at each corner to add weight for windy days as well as to provide clearance for trimming. All construction would consist of wolmanized material. This would negate the requirement of putting posts in ground.
