Title: My Vampire
Post by Yak Man on Aug 28th, 2014 at 8:13am
Well that's not my vampire but this is going to be my next project. I'm thinking it will be very happy on grass and will be a good fit at any field in the zone. Not going to be a full blown build thread but Ill put pics up here and there along the way if there's an interest. :)

I certainly would be interested in the thread. Looks like it would be a great subject to model and a good grass field jet.
Have fun......

Geez, Al, you've had the ribs and forms for about a week now. I thought you'd be just finishing up the painting and applying the decals by now. ;)

This should be a great project!

Hi Guys
Al C brought the kit by last weekend. Very nice . Laser cut parts.
If I was to build one of these I think it would be the one.

The first thing you need to do is build a crutch that will support the fuse formers.

Next is a crutch support pedestal. This is screwed onto a board to keep it all straight.

These shots show it on the work table but I did end up moving it to a board.

Now for the fun part! It takes shape very quickly using this method. I think this going to be a easy fuse to build.

Al you had to take the "warbirds" to a whole new level lol.  Can't wait to see this in the air.

You will be doing heritage formation flights with the Spits before you know it  :D

Thanks for all the positive comments guys.  Made a little more progress. The stringer were easy but after a few planks were installed I had to taper and bevel both ends and it still wants to go astray. This part of the build is slow.

Al
I can see where the air goes in
what do you have to do to make the hot gases com out the back end?
(the rear bulkhead - do you cut that open?
doesnt seem to be much of a frame left if you do?)

Brian the rear former is cut out after the whole thing is done.   There's a small extension on the end to get the taper.

Here's a picture with  one of the wing tank.  The beer is for scaling.

That beer upside down is just wrong!

Got a little more done off and on through the week.
This shot is the mounting bits for the booms. There's one in each wing and it's real important that they both be the same or who knows what  back end problem could arise.
It's first in the wing build.

The rest of the wing doesn't build much different then any other wing on the top. However that all changes once it off the board and you start adding all the thing needed.

I manage to get the right wing started. I had to flip the plans over and trace the lines to get a layout to build from, but it works.

This is such a cool project.  The model is scale, and the subject is so different from the normal lineup of Mustangs, Spitfires (sigh), and Thunderbolts.

Al's project has made me spend time on the web researching Vampires....you get some strange hits when you Google Vampire.  Gotta be rather specific  ;)

Good job Al.  Keep the updates coming.

Agreed. That's looking real good Al.
I just watched a video of Kerry's, flown at Jets over Kentucky this year. A real smooth flier.
