Title: 2013 Lawrencetown RC Slope Fest
Post by Ghost Flyer on Jul 26th, 2013 at 2:24pm
2013 Lawrencetown RC Slope Fest
-an informal gathering- August 3rd Weekend
11AM 'til Dark

Hello folks,

You are invited to come out to Lawrencetown on the August 3rd Weekend, to fly (slope soar) the 95' high slope, which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, with surfing, kite boarding, and beaches in view. If you haven't tried RC slope soaring yet, this is a good opportunity to have a go at it. Vic has a slope trainer set up to a buddy-box system. Steve Ryan will also be there and is a slope instructor, as well. This should be a blast!

Please note that this event isn't being hosted by any RC clubs. It is simply an informal gathering at the Lawrencetown slope, if the wind and weather are favourable. If the weather/wind doesn't work out, it will be moved to the next day, Aug 4, then Aug 5 as a backup date again. In fact, this event may carry on over the entire weekend if folks want it to. There will be RC pilots attending from as far as NB and I suspect they will want to slope more than one day.

Required Wind Direction: southeast to west (SW is ideal)

There is talk about having some basic competitive tests, such as most loops in 2 minutes, highest altitude in one minute, maybe a bit of slope combat and even a slope race. Prizes are bragging rights, and as well, 2 more prizes called the "Beach Boxed Lunch", graciously sponsored by The Heron's Nest Tea Room at the MacDonald House. 8-)

Location: Near Lawrencetown Beach, Nova Scotia. On the big hill, behind The Heron's Nest Tea Room at the MacDonald House.

Snacks, Food, & Refreshments:
The Heron's Nest Tea Room at the MacDonald House, next to the hill, has a delicious menu. One item of interest is their Beach Boxed Lunch special (available for take out) for a mere $6.50. It includes a sandwich (egg salad, tuna, or peanut butter and jam), a slice of homemade desert, and a bottle of water.

Post Slope BBQ, Bonfire, Camping, AND flying electric park-flyers, hosted by Vic and Mary:
After a day of slope soaring during the Lawrencetown Slope Fest, join us for the pilot's BBQ, flying your electric park-flyers, bonfire, and camping, all at Vic's other property. Be sure to see Vic before pitching your tent or setting up your travel trailer.

Drop off/Parking: Plenty of parking is available at Stoney Beach, on the bottom, west side of the hill. The proprietors of The Heron's Nest Tea Room at the MacDonald House has offered use of their parking lot as drop off point for getting gliders, slopers, gear, people with bad knees, etc. to the slope, BUT, PLEASE don't leave your vehicle parked there longer than needed to drop off your gear. Please park your vehicles down the hill a bit, at Stoney Beach.

Public Washrooms: Due to the limited well size at MacDonald House, they cannot handle large crowds for the washroom, so they are asking if you can please use the Public Washrooms down at the Lawrencetown Beach.

There is also a thread for this on the HEFA forums, where there is some more discussion.

Hi folks,

Vic and Mary have so nicely offered to host a pilot's BBQ, bonfire, and camping after the first day of flying at the slope!!! Also, if the wind is light enough, there is plenty of room at Vic's field for flying electric park-flyers! :D As such, there won't be a chili supper, since we now have the BBQ. Here is an excerpt from the updated Slope Fest announcement.

Just in case anyone that hasn't tried this yet, is sitting on the fence about coming to the slope, this is a great chance to get out and try something new with flying RC. Instructors will be there with a slope trainer, so this is a great opportunity to experience something new. This is a very special two day event in that there will be many very experienced slope pilots there, several from out of town and province.

Some folks will be camping at Vic's field, and just in case anyone it wondering, there is a porta-pottie on site, at his field.

Even if you don't slope, and don't want to try it, it will still be worth your while to stop by the slope to check out all the gliders, slopers, action and to meet new pilots. This event is running both Saturday and Sunday.

It's looking like a great weekend!
Andrew
