Title: Snowbirds Hawk - Revisit
Post by Danster on Feb 18th, 2012 at 6:43pm
Decided to move ahead on this one again. Parts were a bit scattered, but I found them all. I redid the retract gear today and worked on the inlet ducts. The nose wheel steering is going to be a real pain to do, but she tucks right up out of sight when retracted.

Anyways, here she sits on her new legs. A lot more solid than on the old wires. Strictly a runway jet, no bungee for this one.

Dan, are the side ducts going to be opened or is there a cheater hole.....looks kinda like a pair of ducts there - is that what you're meaning???  Excuse me for sounding dumb, but 1) I am and 2) torches are not my forte at all...

Mark - the kit is a Boogie Hawk, can be found at http://www.velocity-rc.com/cgi-bin/vrc/prod/manager.cgi?action=show&pid=30 Mine came direct from the maker, before it was distributed by Velocity RC.
The fan is a 70mm class fan, but it is powered by a JetScreamer 1400 for 1400W of power on tap on a 4s5000 pack, controlled by a 100A Turnigy K-Force ESC. I built it to have flaps, but did not configure it with them, and they are just tapped in the shut position. To be flown only from asphalt.

Sandy - See the attached pic for the view of the inlets. The duct work is sitting on the table beside it. They are not permanently glued into the fuse, so you have to put these in with the fan. No fire breathing turbine in this one.... ;)

Looks like a pretty impressive setup.  I am guessing it should be pretty similar to the HET F-20's that you and Al were flying last year?

Hopefully, it will blow the doors off any F20 that might be in the air...
:-) videos with the same setup showed speeds passing 130mph....

Fingers crossed!
