I'm posting in this thread so everyone reads this post.

I was out trying to mow the field this morning and couldn't complete it. The field has 4" standing water in areas and mowers were sinking causing ruts. only the main runway short of the far last 100 yds was mowed and the short runway only the half closest to the road was mowed (only the middle 1/3 section) otherwise everything was soaking wet and extremely soft. After talking with El-Presidente, he has made a command decision the field be closed to flying until Monday to allow to dry out and not damage the runways.

Also #1 mower had to be repaired front leveling adjustment bolt assembly was assembled without a washer and the nut pulled thru the mounting hole on the frame. We found a washer the correct size and made a repair and re-leveled the mowing deck.
DO NOT ADD OIL without checking dipstick level on flat ground. #1 mower is 1" over filled on dipstick!!

If field drys enough maybe Sunday / Monday (HOLIDAY) we can fly.

Kevin

The washer for the front deck adjustment rod is supposed to be hemispherical to fit into the indent in the bracket. This allows the rod to sway side to side. There isn’t really any side to side play in the 90 degree bend on the mower deck end of the rod. A flat washer is good for a temp fix but we should replace with the correct washer.
Perhaps one of members with a lathe could fashion a rounded one side washer. From memory of that assembly on tractor 2 mower deck when I adjusted it, it was approx. 2” in diameter, one side flat, other hemisphere and has a 3/8 hole in center for rod. Washer thickness isn’t an important dimension as the rod adjustment can accommodate for that.

Picture of the washer page 24 of the tractor manual.

Exactly Greg, all we had was a flat washer with 3/8" hole and it worked fine for the day. if we get the correct washer the level will have to be readjusted for the hemispherical shape. I still don't understand how the washer could get off the rod as the Teflon lock nut was still there. the washer would have to have snapped into two pieces! it had to be there as the nut goes thru the hole so easy.

Plan B for field closure. Sandy says closed tomorrow(Saturday) and we'll try for Sunday. but I would still bring boots as I know it will be soggy and muddy in spots. FYI pits and parking were not mowed today. Around Pilots stations were mowed.

Just a heads up. The ground here is absolutely saturated with water, thus no place for water to go. Talking with Paul Taylor yesterday, he has not been able for some time to get on the dykes to harvest his grain crop. It will take a few days like today to dry out so it can be soaked again this coming weekend possibly thanks to the coming hurricane.
