We have about 45 club members on hand right now, so roughly 40 will get pissed off at me for this.
Over the past 3 weeks, I have had several texts, several e-mails, 1 phone call, and I notice today there are comments on the web site, all saying “the grass is too long”, and variations on that theme.
It is the time of year when crops grow. Grass is a crop. If it is mowed on Tuesday it will be long on Saturday. If it is mowed Friday, for Saturday, then the grass will be long next Wednesday. That's the way it is. The club has, up in the SeaCan, several thousand dollars worth of mowers, there just so we can mow our field.
Please, if several of you go to the field and find the grass long, get the mowers and MOW THE RUNWAYS. We make an effort to insure there is gas in the jugs, so use it. With 2 guys, the runways can be mowed in an hour. 3 or 4 guys can mow the runways 2 at a time while the others get their planes ready; then swap and finish, still within an hour. With care, mowing can even be while flying is going on.
Instead of driving all that distance and being annoyed that the grass is long, mow it please. You will still get flying in, and the guys coming tomorrow will be happy that the grass is short enough to fly..
ALSO......whenever you are on a mowing group for the week, when you have finished, please update this site, in the mowing section, that the mowing is done. That way, the next fliers encountering long grass will realize the runways haven't been neglected, rather Mother Nature got ahead of us.
Thank you.
