Greg
You were already legal at the field.

Fresh in from MAAC:

To all MAAC Members,
Re: Transport Canada Gazette II news release of January 10, 2019
We would like to advise you that the anticipated new regulations for Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS ) have now been published. However, it should be clearly understood that nothing has changed for MAAC members and even though the regulations have now been published, they do not take effect until 1st June 2019. Until that date the Interim Order Respecting the use of Model Aircraft remains in effect, and as this order does not apply to MAAC operations, MAAC members can continue to operate as we always have.
Once the new regulations do come into effect, they will apply to all aircraft without a pilot onboard, whether for recreational or non-recreational purposes. However, be assured that MAAC continues to working with Transport Canada to ensure your current privileges are protected. As we advised you in the last email update, MAAC is working with Transport Canada on an exemption from the new regulations. With this exemption, once the new regulations do come into effect, MAAC members will enjoy the same freedoms they always have. It is expected that the MAAC exemption will be approved well before the new regulations come into effect on 1st June 2019. In the meantime please see the attached letter from Transport Canada, Letter – AARV – MAAC 2019 – 01-09 showing their commitment to these ongoing efforts and the preservation of our privileges.
MAAC leadership continues to work for its members and to ensure that we can all enjoy our passion of operating model aircraft. We will provide additional updates, once we have secured the exemption. Until then, please let me repeat that nothing has changed for MAAC members and you can continue to operate as you always have.
On behalf of the MAAC transport Canada Advisory Group
Peter Schaffer
President - MAAC

I knew that Glen. Wasn’t challenging the exam to fly at MAAC fields.
Challenged the exam to see if I could pass it. Not a big gamble for $10.
Now that I have it, I can badger a couple buds who have uav’s and no certificate yet Grin Even though they have to June 1 to get them.

What does all this mean?  What do we need to fly our regular fixed wing planes at Windsor?

I don’t think enough dust has settled to determine exact details. However as it stands now, you will need a RPAS certificate (Transport Canada online exam successfully completed) and each aircraft registered online with transport Canada giving each a registration number to be displayed.
Certainly a disappointing turn of events!

I think for me I’m going to begin the search for a new, less regulated hobby. If we comply with all the new Transport Canada crap they could still pull the rug below our feet anytime for any infraction??? Having been obliged to be under Transport Canada control and regulations for most of my working career I have very little hope for the future of the sport/hobby. My feeling only.

Dave, unfortunately I agree with you, having dealt with them all my Flying career was in most cases confrontational and sour , always dealing with "Inspectors" who were uninformed and lacked reason, quoteing Regs without question, this doesnt bode well.

Has anyone tried registering a plane yet, at $5.0 a plane?

It is going to create a huge mess when everyone tries to register all of their planes , drones , jet , helicopter across Canada .
Will clubs have to enforce this ?  What happens to the clubs if this gets missed and someone is checked

fun fun fun ,   I see memberships dropping fast , in clubs and MAAC

Wow, I just read the letter from MAAC. Pretty awful turn of events for the hobby in general. I also unfortunately know the pitfalls of working with TC. The 5$ registration fee for each model is a real kick in the teeth too, considering the buy/sell nature of the hobby.

Lets hope maac can salvage something before flying season, or it may just be foamies in a park for me.

I think that the problem is that MAAC has no control now or in the future. Everything we do from now on will be through Transport Canada.

I hope I’m wrong!!!!

Also not to add salt to the wound if you sell/ trade/ destroy or buy another plane you have to report it to TC. also you have to maintain a maintenance log for each aircraft and transmitter and ensure repairs are made by qualified personnel. Sounds just like the gun registry a few years ago.! Also now minimum age to fly is 14 years for basic and 16 yrs for advanced certificate and you must stay current with your certificate by retraining or re-test or completing an on-line self paced study package every three years minimum.

Well I swallowed my pride and completed the TC pilot certificate. I’m sure that TC has no concept of flying our planes given their limitations ( planes that is ). Most questions are what I consider way above what we are required to know. That’s the last rant from me I promise. Perhaps????

Got mine today. BUT, cannot understand the relevance of having to know who I would contact to land my helicopter at St. Jerome Quebec Hyro Heliport.

I guessed Maribel and was correct, but really.......?
