While getting the ESM Hurricane ready, I noticed the retracts seem to have a lot of slop. don't remember that from when I flew it last.
The struts, when down, have about 1/2" (1 cm) back-and-forth to them at the wheel. Is that about right? Do expensive gear like Robart have that slop? If too much, can the slop be taken out and how??

I like it, that'll stiffen up those moving parts for sure Grin.

On a semi serious note, some retracts have adjustments, some don't. Have a look Sandy and see if there's some set screws.

No set screws Glen. The slop is right at the mouth of the trunion block, where the slot opens to accept the bar from the cylinder. Bar is out just a smidgeon too far so it slops.
I CAN put shim stock or very thin washers on the pin holding the trunion, that will help a tad.

The metal used in ESM gear is so soft that all you can really do is squeeze it back together and hope.  Of course the more you do that the weaker it gets. Also of you squeeze it to much the gear will stick.

Still no set screws, as I determined before, but I WAS wrong on where the slop is. Not at the mouth of the trunion block!!  Embarrassed   Good guess, but upon further examination, I found that when the gear is down, the back of the block comes up against a stop pin. So the block is held verticle by the rod in the pneumatic rod rising in the slot of the block, which goes to an over center, PLUS there is a cross pin that the trunion backs up against.
The pic shows the pin, and the block, and you can see the small gap. I have some brass shim stock that mic's about .1mm, and I can get 2 layers through the gap without affecting either up or down. but the slop remains... Angry Tongue Cry

That I can help you with. Just a matter of cutting an over sized pin. Or could knurl the existing pin.
