sooooh
being a bit dim at my age, I am wondering how in the hell one stows about a foot of motor 3 wire(s) without cutting and soldering.

picture would be nice since I don't read anymore, being a bit dim

ahh but
that blocks the airway.
Am I missing something?
this reviewers solution is to stuff the wires down the ESC cooling air tunnel https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=V_5W6QjSWb0
must work else there would be lots of complaints of failing ESCs

looks like i have to cut and solder if I want to preserve airflow over the ESC,
i don't like the idea of setting the wires at the 9 o/c position
they will rub on the plastic for anchoring  the cowling retention.
just seems a bit strange that the kit is well thought out except for this... potential sparks a flying because of the wire rubbing on the spinning motor case.

Well, you could turn the ESC 180 deg, then the motor wires run down outside the bottom and hook up to the ESC at the back...

OR there are ESC's that have no wires, the motor plugs directly into the case..BIG$$$$

just don't overthink it brian.  Stuff the wires in there so they're not in the way of  motor rotation is all you need.  the so called cooling flow over ESC's in many models, if not all,  is overrated.  I seriously doubt much if any air goes down over anything.  Far too many obstructions in most models and
add to that none of them having any decent exit hole for flowing air to escape.

I have several foamies and it's the same in all of them.  Have never had an ESC failure. And that particular plane has been a very successful one with no ESC complaints that I know of.

Stow your wires as glenn says with tie wraps, stow your worries and go fly the bugger.

Same here, the last couple of days,  sunny but windy.  the wind is kicking ass with that snow though!

a shot made this morning from my quad next to the local soccer field where we often fly this time of year.  lots of pasture showing up on the hills across the river.

hope to be going flying this weekend
have to walk into the field from a country road
i think I will take the wife along...a lot to carry in Huh

the soil here is like nothing I have ever encountered.  When wet it is the most adhesive glutinous mass.  When really dry it is concrete.

what's wrong with this picture?
can't you smell it?
the odour of 60AMP ESC frying on startup
the power of 4500 6S

the ESC was faulty from the get go
waiting for a Horizon Hobby replacement

Hope the smell in the house has gone before it arrives
and no...I didn't have the leads reversed
RIP my battery
no replacement for that from Horizon

Hey Brian. A lot of folks are replacing the stock ESC with a Castle talon 90. I may do the same, as I've read of many a story that ended the same as yours.did you lose keep control of your radio or did it fry everything. I've read that some just fry the control to the motor, but maintain radio.?

Did a setup check with a 60 amp plush and a 3s everything tested ok.  Wasn't about to put another 6s at risk.
The battery I was using was hot hot hot and bulging like it was ready to burst.  The setup was on the kitchen table.  I ran out of the back door holding the battery thinking " I hope you don't burst into flames"

First sign was the ESC crackling and cooking in the foam tunnel.  The ESC was bloody hot.  From inspection the innards of the ESC had one lead to the motor with a cold joint.  That wasn't the cause of the short.  I think it is the on off switch into the circuitry. Shorting out on the high current back plane

Eflite is usually reasonable quality but this failure leads me to be leave design flaws.  But the cold joint implies crap assembly.  Of course the components are el cheapo chinese knockoff.

I had a castle ice drop dead on me last year on takeoff.  That was 50 amp.  I like it when they die and go to sleep.  Not try to burn the house down.

so here's the thing with the Elite 60 amp ESC

if you are setting up a system and the Tx has throttle reversed
then when you power up you could be in programming mode and not know it

so if you fiddle with the tx
you could be randomly programming the ESC
the motor should be beeping and that would be your clue
mine wasn't

but i am wondering if when i started with my brand new football T8FG if i somehow set the ESC to say 6S and plugged in a 6S battery.  I don't think this should fry the ESC or burn down the house but.........

Hey Brian. Thanks for the birthday wishes. I am nervous about running this esc period because of the amount of failed (read burnt up) esc's out there. Ask Coolen. He for one had one cook on him. From what i've read, they may fir in the "junk" category, which is unusual for a Horizon product. If they burn up and only fail on the motor side, I can live with that. now if I lose the entire plane because of it, I'd be pissed. If it started a fire in my house.........I'd be calling my lawyer. soooh
horizon hobby replaced my 60 amp ESC.
Now I am thinking ... New Transmitter new ESC
>>somewhere i read about throttle being reversed first time in the setup and the ESC going into programming mode.
Now not being used to Elite ESCs, i wonder what they do with 6S battery if they are programmed out of the shipped auto setting by mistake, say into the 3S mode.

would that cause them to roast themselves?
