yup that's the choke needle - the upper one that is.

some 4 strokes will start fine without choking, but you'd have to try it to find out  Huh otherwise you'll have to find a cool place to punch a big hole through the side of your cowl  Angry

Jack, you couldn't not go with retracts on a plane like that!
The retracts look robust and should stand up.
The price makes them a real bargain.
Looking forward to seeing it...

Yep, Fingers nailed it.  Just don't use the choke. If you have a problem getting it wet to start, then just tap on the end of the muffler when it's spinning on a starter to wet it. It will go!  Smiley

Hey Jack:  That looks exactly like my PC9.  I'm using the ASP 120 and was thinking of using an inverted pitts muffler so I wouldn't have to cut up the side of the cowl.  Are you using the standard muffler, and if so, will you have to cut the side of the cowl?

Hi Jack
Nice looking plane.
Don't have an ASP but on our 91's OS and YS we found the 13 10 prop to be the best. I believe they say a 13 8 for the ASP
On my old YS 91 I went as high as a 14 12 but the 14 10 worked a lot better . If I can remember correctly the OS was happier on the 13 10.

Kevin was here yesterday and remarked about that nylon or plastic engine mount. We use metal mounts instead .If your engine shows any sign of vibration you might want to use a metal mount.

Ok Grant, 1'll go the 13*8 to start, better ground clearance also...I thought about the mount, I will watch it closely. Are you concerned about it cracking? Huh

Bruce, I'm just going with the side muffler for now, the Hole should be aft of the Turbine Exhaust. I'll post pics of the cowl tonight. Where's your Pics.. Huh

Hi Jack
I don't think it will ever crack or break, but we have found anything around 91 and up there is so much movement (Flexing) Yours might be a stiffer material but as you put more load on the engine (Bigger Prop)they tend to move around. The only problem with a metal mount is you transfer all that motion to your plane.
I soft mount anything over a 91
Kevin uses hard mounts and never seems to have a problem.

The engine mounts looks like Teflon to me not plastic.
what should I do here for the exhaust hole in the cowl? Huh

Hi Jack
Probably not enough. It would be good idea to run that new motor without the cowl at least for a couple of runs. That way the motor won't get to hot on the first run and will have a chance to cool down quicker. Then you will  be able to see how much the engine is going to move.
On my shaky engines I always leave at least 3/8 around anything that comes out of the cowl.
If the engine head hits or muffler it can make an awful mess
on a fiberglass cowl.

Yes I Plan to do that without the cowl on this weekend, and I have enlarged the hole significantly, but what do you suggest I do, Shocked install the cowl then screw on the muffler, then try to tighten,  Roll Eyesor install the muffler, then try to fit the cowl over and elliptical muffler hole? Huh

Bemused... Huh

Hi Jack
This has always been a problem.
I installed a tunnel and a small pipe to get around  that problem on the P 47.
My Ulitmate have the standard muffler and also my Yak.
In the Yak I was able to install a Pitts style muffler but I still have to take of the silicon tube to take the cowl of.
On my Ulitmate  I screw the muffler on after the cowl is in place. The  fiberglass flexes enough that I can do this
I then use that 700 Degree silicon and hope my muffler does not come off.
