I will be adding some pics as I go along(soon).
This aircraft is going to be a working model,no freeloading here.....
Will be equiped with smoke, and water sprayers.

It's a heavy lifter so large gas and smoke/water tanks won't be an issue.

Will commence posting soon.

Hangar 9 33% Pawnee Specs;
-130" wingspan
-94" fuselage
-scale landing gear
-35-38 lbs.

Equipment being used;
-7955's all around except 5625 throttle and 5645's flaps
-Aurora 9 RX
-4, A123 (2300)mah batts,2 for redundant system,1 for ignition, 1 for pump.
-Zenoah 80cc twin/electronic ignition

As you can see, I'm not intending to share any of the batteries with other functions. Weight is not an issue with this heavy lifter.
Pics to follow;

Some pics of build;
note the engine box, you install the engine on the box then insert it into the fuse then epoxy and 3/8 multiple dowels all around. Very smooth... not like other manufacturers.
The quality of this H9 is very good, equal to the Pilot ARFS I have.

Thanks guys, looking forward to the smoke and water...
Experimenting with spray bar inside muffler rather then a straight stream.
So far, lots of smoke! more then I anticipated.

The water system will take more thought getting the velocity at the nozzles just right. Suspect many dry runs oops, I should say wet runs to get it right.
Hoping I don't have to go more then a 32oz. tank for water as I want to have a reasonable spray duration...
If I have to I will, there's plenty of room.

Will post pics on how I fabricated the muffler spray bar.

Spray bar I fabricated and installed in my Pitts muffler.
Drilled 1/16th holes in brass tubing and inserted opposite the exhaust port.
The inside end of the brass tube is pinched off, forcing the smoke fluid to exit through the small holes (6).
Used JB Weld, works fine !

Part of the fuel and smoke systems installed.
Flying wires and tial gear completed
Still working with smaller holes in smoke system spray bar, although the smoke is very good a higher pressure mist  may produce more....

Tail gear installed and wing completed
Next step will be radio and (engine) install when it arrives.
If all ARF's from  H9 are of this quality, they should be able to maintain a good reputation.

Spray system for wings will be the last step once the flight testing is finished (next spring).

Great looking plane.
Couple of questions / comments:

1) Are the wing struts removable for transport?

2) Do you really think the plane will steer correctly on the ground with an ESM tail wheel? Wink Wink I thnik you should at least grind the ESM logo off. Grin Grin

I was waiting for someone to notice.......
The ESM wheel is a 1/4" larger so I chose that one.
It's the only thing I liked on the ESM parts.

Don't know if it's IMAC legal but if it is I would be concerned if it accidentally dropped it's water load on the judges!
That would guarantee a 0 in itself, rather then my flying.

That would only be a zero because it would have to be behind the flight 100ft flight line.   Grin

More progress on fuel/smoke/water system.
All fuel/smoke/water tubing identified for easy maintenance and troubleshooting if necessary.
The water tube is T'd off the smoke line going into the mufflers.
That same water tube will run backward to exit out the bottom of the fuselage to the spray bars on the wing (to be fabricated this winter).

The smoke fluid will be clamped/valved off (if I can get 1/8" ) inline valves?? when the water will be used.
For the smoke I will  Y off the tubing after the T for water to seperate the lines (one for each muffler).

The key is to properly isolate the systems (water/smoke) from one another.
It will be an either or system, not simultaneous functions.

If anyone knows of a source for small 1/8" inline valves please let me know.

Dan, you can try Fairview Fittings in Burnside for the small valves.  If they are made, they will have them!

Elevator and rudder servos installed.
As you can see they are deep in tail section.
The large compartment forward of the elevator servos is for installing batteries for CG,depending on the engine being used.
Engine range is from a 60 to 100 cc .

You're making great progress, Dan. At this rate, you should have time to rebuild ny 100cc Extra that needs some legs. Wink Wink Wink

It's interesting that they anticipate adding tail weight. Great setup with tray already cut out.

Can't wait to see it in the air.

Don't anticipate needing to install the batteries back there.
It's probably needed if a 100cc engine is being used.
I don't think that aft battery compartment will be needed when using the 80/85cc engines .

Won't have too much of the winter to work on it as we will be away for most of it. Figured I would get most of the grunt work done and do the spray/smoke system afterwards

Started the design for the hangars/tubing on the trailing edge of wing.
Will be making 4 for each wing half.
The design I'm using should not compromise the air flow over the wing or the ailerons and flaps.

Could not source ball valves small enough to use with gas tubing.
As a result,I'll need to make some modifications to the initial setup by using Festo fittings and compatible tubing.
(Festo fittings cannot be used with Tygon or silicone)

Will be using a ball valve for smoke fluid and also one for the water. As it's going to be an either or system sharing the same tank, (smoke or water) not both simultaneously, I will need to shut off the smoke tubing valve when using water and open the water system valve. The reverse will be used when using water.

Each system (water & smoke) will have a dedicated check valve(s) (Festo fitting).
If these systems function as intended, I may add a second tank and pump to operate them simultaneously, time will tell........

View of size difference between 33% Pawnee and 30% Sbach.
Started new engine today (Zenoah 80 twin). After discovering the (dead) ignition pack started the engine on second flip.

Hi Dan
Now I can see why you need a trailer. Maybe well have to get Bruce to build us a ramp this summer to get them up of the ground to service them.
Looks real good.
Amazing how many hours it  actually takes to get one of these in the air. I have never checked but it sure seems a long time from start to finished. And then when you have made a change and decided you have a better way ,you can spend most of the winter working on the project.

With a little assistance I'll be using my stand (in pics) to assemble/disassemble at field. Sure saves the back and gets you right up close when working on it too.
