Hi Fingers,

I was at shearwater today....too windy (30kmph) to fly the stuff i brough.

However, they are more that willing to run an IMAC event.

I really would love to at least try the routine next weekend...the wife is away.

Anyway, could we run an IMAC training event?  I know several people that would be interested.

I think the issue with IMAC is that it is intimidating to people....i know this is the case with me, and i suspect others feel the same.

I think we might get a lot more interest if there were "training events".

Just a suggestion.....

could we do an IMAC trainer next weekend? Cool

I am sure if you asked anybody of the locals who fly IMAC (Sandy, Al, Kelly, etc) they would be more than willing to take a day and show you guys the ropes.  An actual contest isn't the best place to learn the ropes are we just don't have the required time to do a proper introduction however I highly encourage you to attend and participate.  It is a blast and you will never meat a better bunch of guys.

The big thing you want to learn is judging/aresti (the drawn maneuvers on paper).  This would entail learning what a proper maneuver looks like from start to end because you cannot fly a proper maneuver (say a straight line for example) if you do not know what it should look like.  You will get a lot more out of a primer if you are familiar with the judging aspect.  The maneuvers are not at all difficult to fly....but they are amazingly difficult to fly well.  Learning to fly in a straight line is one of the most challenging parts of IMAC.

Here is a good link to some basic judging criteria for IMAC: http://www.mini-iac.com/Portals/0/Downloads/Rules/SA2011.pdf

How many guys are interested?

And it's a fact that when we get to the field, sometimes we get immersed with what we are doing and forget people looking for help...I know that if you came to me with a basic routine sheet, I'd be happy talk you through it and then to fly it for you to show you how easy it really is... not putting words in their mouths, but i bet Cool and Kelly would do the same

Hi Sandy,

You know, you are totally right in that us new guys realllllly appreciate getting help and advice from you guys with more experience. Grin Grin Grin Grin

I think most of us know that you don't mind helping, but i think the problem is more with us, in that i feel a bit guilty asking for help because i know it is your day to fly also, and i don't want to waste you time.

We all only have limited time to fly, and we want to make the best of it! Grin

Thats why i thought that a dedicated day to nubees in IMAC might be usefull.

no pressure, no expectations, just plane fun.... Wink

what do you think?

If you could get even 10 guys at a primer, that would be amazing in and of itself.  With that many, it would be a good idea to meet the morning of and have a classroom session on judging and imac basics and then take the remainder of the day and fly the basic sequence with each pilot 1 on 1.

It is kind of late in the season to have a primer as all of the usual events are under way but I am sure the boys could work something out.  If you can guarantee 10 people, I would be willing to make a trip down your way and volunteer my time for a day.

A primer on the judging aspect would interest me more.  I have a fairly good grasp on how to fly the routines but I have a hard time marking.  Not sure how much to take off for over rotation of a roll, maneuvers not centered on uplines/downlines, etc.  Although it is my understanding everyone seems to score differently.

This will tell you the ins and outs of judging.  How many points per degrees of over rotation, etc.  It gets very specific.
