All lines were tied and secured by Capt Al. Just took them off to dismantle the carnage.

Holy McCrud guys......

everyone makes fun of me for how long it takes to get a plane done, JoeDi has it made.. He wrecks his plane, whines on and on about how the engine was crap, and gets everyone else to rebuild the darn thing for him..... Cool

That's almost as bad as some idjit getting a bunch of good ole boys to basically BUILD a new plane, NIB,  at Margaree on the pretense it was a little wet out!!!!!! Now who the he** was THAT character... Angry

oh yeh,  me... Way to go Joe  Smiley

True that. Trust me, if I had the know how and the tools, I would do it myself. I sadly have neither. Al is busy for the next while, so I will get LOTS of yard work done.  Wink

Should see you guys out there mid May and then I am gone for a couple of weeks and back in June. Might even make Margaree this year again. Should be around for most of the summer. As, it appears now.  Lips Sealed

PS- Not near as bad as the idjit  Cheesy

Another look at the Hare this weekend. Still trying to get this CA off of my fingers. Seems I get more there than on the plane. I will post some pictures as I go. I am sure you will find it entertaining.

Yeah Sad, George Dunphy had a great laugh over that happening to me at the (2000?) airshow, when I was starting my Something Extra (as a build demo). Embarrassed

A dog's age ago, a buddy was at my place doing something or another, and got CA all over his hands (early days of the stuff and we didn't have the awareness we do now).....
he put his hands in his pockets!! Grin Grin

Aside from the burns it took most of a bottle of nail polish remover to get said hands from said pockets  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy - he was begging me to take an X-acto knife and just remove chunks of pant... Shocked

Okay, so I began the repairs on my own. For better or worse. Here is the progress.

Whitey has the cowl ready for painting. No rush on that, as here is my start.

It is going a little slow, as I am using 30 minute epoxy on anything that needs serious strength (former repair).

I started by pulling away the covering on the smashed part of the fuse. I then pulled everything back into place, as much as I could. and wicking in thin CA.

To strengthen things up, I am patching with contest balsa from the inside. Once I have the balsa patch in place, I once again soak the balsa patch with thin CA to harden and strengthen it. Seems to work okay.

Digging a little deeper, I found yet another mangled former. As this one was really weakened, I hit it with CA to hold it in place and laminated a very thin piece of light ply to it on either side, using 30 minute epoxy. As shown here.

At this point the fuse is clamped allowing more 30 minute epoxy to set up on a broken cross brace. I have a few more formers to laminate and the side to smooth out with epoxy and beads (like a brown powder)? I have some but have never used it. What is the correct mixture of beads, epoxy and hardener?

so far things are looking pretty good Joe, doing it rite....

as for the beady stuff.... epoxy is still 50/50, then add the bead till the mixture is "powdery" - now thats a big help isn't it.... the more powder, the weaker the glue but the easier the sand, so if its not a structural joint then pwder it up good...

now the experts (xspurts) can have a go at my comments and tell you what they think...
