Hi Joe
Sorry to here about your loss. I think we should relized that sooner or later that beast up front is someday gonna stop. The hard part is to be ready for it.
Sometimes there is nothing you can do but if you fly with the thoughts that it can happen a lot of times you can stay out of trouble.

I know myself I have been taking more chances than I should. Maybe it is the wide open spots.
I do know that before I came here I always keep my air speed up in case of a Flame out. Same as taking off , a sharp climb out is asking for trouble. A nice gentle take off and and if you lose the engine you probably can make it around.
I haven't flown the big ones for this very reason. When the engine dies it like a brick wall came up in front of you,no place to go but straight to the runnway.
Over the years a lot of modelers have come and gone and most never come back.
This hobby can come up and bite you quick.
It's a great hobby and we have a good bunch of guys at AVIA.

Hope you don't pack it in.

Thanks Grant. Yes, the R/C gods seemed to be playing against me yesterday, although that particular incident only plays a small role in my thought process with regards to taking a break.

That said, the relentless nature of my friends in the hobby, found me in the basement striping the carnage away and assessing the actual damage. I found that 90% of the parts are present and accounted for. There is some structural damage and the cowl is pretty beat up. One wing needs repair, I suspect not a big deal for someone that knows what they are doing. The offending POS engine is intact and seems undamaged.

Aside from the boot in the arse I got for stinking the house up with gas fumes, it is going well for a first look at it.

Bruce don't give my spot away just yet. Hopefully I will be up and running for the warm weather. Not sure how much I can be around, but I will remain a member none the less.

Cheers
Joe

Joe:  We had no intentions on giving away your spot.  In Fact, just before your post, I was talking with my "special" friends who were going to break your legs (that takes care of you working on the winery) and Handsome George was going to meet your Wife.  That's two issues taken care of.  Now you have lot's of time to fly.  That`s what a club is for, Taking care of the health and welfare of our friends, so they have more time to fly. Jimmy: No sir, I've never been up in a plane before.
Oveur:  You ever seen a grown man naked?
