Hey Steve:

Did you get a chance to do the cockpit this winter?  Have you decided when the maiden will be?

hmmmm ... no cockpits  Angry Angry

the maiden will happen once the spring mud dries up. I may bring it down though to run some more fuel through the engines. if all goes as it usually does, the actual maiden will be unplanned - if it feels right, I'll take off. Smiley Smiley

The B-25 flies!!! On Saturday, after a bit of gentle coaxing (yeah, right) and a few hiccups (what do you mean - I have to fuel this thing up?), with Mr. Coolen at the controls, the B-25 had her maiden flight. Despite a serious trim problem (who knew a 95" B-25 could do a loop? Roll Eyes), Al handled it well, got things under control and made some beautiful low passes down the runway.

After a few tweaks, a second flight ensued and I even flew it for a few minutes. The plane flies much better than I anticipated  Grin Grin Grin - didn't even need the Depends diapers. Wink I LIKE IT!

Well, since I'm a sucker for punishment and since I just happen to have some B-25 retracts, 2 x 20cc gas engines, a couple of B-25 cockpits and a bunch of servos laying around, I've ordered another ESM B-25 (with a nice offer from TBM to help pay for it).

Lots of planning going into how to strengthen the center wing (can you say "carbon fibre wing tubes"?). The first one flew well and should have had many more flights on it. This one hopefully won't take two years to get to the field.

In my defense on the last one, I was ready to bring it to the field many, many times but I kept hearing forecasts that said a hurricane was due to show up at the Avon field and I didn't want to fly in the wind so I stayed home. Sadly, the forecast of a hurricane was just a myth predicated by an evil troll that is known to hang around the poop palace and it never showed up. Grin Grin Grin

Now, although the next B-25 is not scheduled to arrive until mid-November, I must get myself into the ESM building frame of mind ... Hmmm, just where did I hide that big bottle of rum? Wink

oh yeah????  Angry Grin  Actually i thought you of all people would sympathize, Steve  Violin Whine....it's the "ESM frame of mind" that's a myth, perpetuated by evil Chinese kit designers who plan to take over the Western world by beating our collective brain power into a porridge-like mush by intermixing benign terms like "ARF"  Smiley with corrupting, mind numbing, evilsadomasichismic (ESM get it ?) promises of ..... Naaah Bye Bye excited   Beating A Dead Horse Beating A Dead Horse Beating A Dead Horse

ahem......on a lighter note, we are getting into hurricane season, and once the engine gods deliver the promised new "big block" we should be pretty close to starting to get things almost ready to look at finishing the project - maybe by the time B25 x 2 is in the air  Not Listening

Well, being the incredibly patient guy I am, I waited and waited and waited (since August) for the replacement B-25 to arrive from Troy Build Models ... terrible customer service. They kept moving the delivery date and never once initiated the notification. I always had to go to them. I finally gave up and cancelled the order on the weekend. I would definitely
not recommend
Troy Built Models. Angry Angry

I had also ordered a set of 4.5" wheels/brakes for the B-25 from Robarts in November. No contact for a month until I emailed them. I was told they would be shipped the end of January. No contact from them so I emailed them mid-February - no response. After waiting until the past weekend with no response, I cancelled the order. I would definitely
not recommend
buying direct from Robarts.
Angry Angry

What's going on with this hobby and customer service??? Angry Angry

It's not all bad though. Found a slight problem with one of the stabs on my jet on Saturday. Emailed the dealer in the afternoon - had a reply from Altecare with 1 hour. They had forwarded my email to the manufacturer and we would see what they recommended. Early Monday morning, I had a reply from Aviation Design apologizing for the defect, directions on how I could fix or an offer for them to fix the problem or they would replace both stabs no charge. I would definitely
recommend
Altecare and Aviation Design. Smiley Smiley

Guess this means I have to drag the F-7F back onto the building table (I think I've set a record for the world's longest build).

That sucks Steve..... both Troy Built and Robart would definately go on my Nay Nay list (crap I'm going to miss John Pinette)....

I do have to buy robart tho because I need some bleed valve needles from the main valve (who knew you had to loktite those too!!)..

On the other hand, that F-7F is one sweet plane (
even if you did start it back when the real one was flying
..between you and me, we make a pretty slow pair..... Cheers

Know what you mean, Sandy. Robarts does have some good stuff. I'll buy from dealers if its in stock. No backorderers though.

Hi Steve:

Should be a great plane.

Don't let any of these guys fly it, they might forget to put those great wheels down.

See you when it is dry and warm out.
