Title: Rude Awakening
Post by MkIX on Feb 10th, 2020 at 4:01pm
Sandy's pilot will have a rude awakening when he discovers that he landed at a field that is full of planes with black crosses.

Oops  :)

His plane is black and white because i'm not sure of its current status.

All right you two!!!

I openly admit the MKIIc is way behind.  Figuring out how to attach the outer panels had me for a long while - even though the thing won't be super scale I didn't want bolts down through the top of the wings, although I did look at camoflageing (?) them. I settled on the Merwyn locks, and am in the process of finishing up those. To quote some one at the field sometimes, when he's not sailing, "They'll work a treat!".

The cannons were another thing. Those 4 great honking spring loaded barrels had to look somewhat right...I have copies of Tech Manuals from the War Department. I've scaled up 3 view drawings. Others have searched their files (thanks Mike, your 1.7" was about dead on). Finally the curator of the Cosford Museum sent me a nice sketch he made while eating his lunch out in the hanger  :Raa Raa...Using all that, a guy 3d printed some guns. The final product wasn't the same as the prototype, so I turfed most of the results, just saving the barrel ends.  :(

the final product isn't super, but will work for now. The best part is that Glen suggested magnet mounting, so I can use them in the interim, take them off easily, and replace them as/if I improve.  But WTH, at 50 feet and 50 mph they'll work fine.

Sooo  take that unscrupulous modifilers. And I won't be landing at any German Fields...........poop  >:(

I think the 20 mm canons look just great!

Guns with an attitude; cool.

Thank you sir! by the way, the photoshop job is excellent  [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]

And as for attitude, maybe the guns don't have it, but I sure did after I received my package!!! :'(

Here are two pics that you may find useful.  It's a Mk IIc that is on display at Manston on
the south east tip of England.

Those are great Mike, thank you, Plus I have this taken of the Hurricane when it was in Saint John.  I have a copy of this one scaled to the 1/5 scale I'm working from, and size wise I got pretty close. Have some straps to put around the casing, then paint the whole thing. My guns omit the second step in the cover, but there are likely only 3 guys who would notice.
I think matt black will be the final......

Look under the cannons in Mike's pictures, there's a hook assembly bolted on.
Pretty sure that's where the catapult hooks onto the plane, so it's a sea hurri. :)
Or it's got wings from a sea hurricane.

Hurri's with SN's N23... were built as MKI's. A few were converted to Sea Hurricanes IA but need the whole # to track it. MIKE????

But, to put this in prespective, I believe you just like the knitted booties on the barrels.... ;D ;D ;D

I checked the images that I took of the Hurri while I was at the Museum in Manston; no luck finding a serial number.  Then I found this on the web.

https://www.spitfiremuseum.org.uk/hurricane

The article says that the the serial of the actual aircraft is LF751.  But the serial on the plane as displayed is BN230.

Hope this helps.

Hah! LF751 isn't in my book of numbers.Planes on both sides, but not that one.  The range is for a MKIIc, but pffffft. Thank you for the effort Mike, but no Gold.
