Title: Technical Question for whomever.....
Post by Fingers on Sep 3rd, 2019 at 3:23pm
Not sure whose alley this question is up, so I'll try everyone.

I've been concerned about the current draw when flying the Ultimate. 1 flight will take roughly 500ma out of the pack, which even to my dumb brain seems excessive. I am getting a "stall" or hesitation in channel 2, one of the elevators. It doesn't seem to be in the mechanics because if I switch the two plugs in the receiver, the stall changes sides. When I get the stall, the servos start to chatter a lot.

I took the control horns off both the servos to remove any load or linkage concern, still  have the chatter...

If I put my Wattmeter between the pack and the receiver, and without ailerons hooked up, idle draw started at around .75a, going to 1.1 when I move the servos. This jumpes to 2.5a once the chatter starts..

so choke/throttle/rudder all moving randomly with the sticks - 1.17a. As soon as channel 2 starts to chatter it jumps to 2.5a.

Is this reasonable? I have no idea.

Help  :'(

Futaba receivers have a little bind button on them. Push down on the button when the Tx is on and bind - Tadah!!   Little red light comes on on the receiver when you first turn it on.

If you should push that button when the Tx is NOT on and bound, and if you hold the button for 2 sec or more, you change the Rx from regular to High Speed protocol, and High Speed requires digital servos. Since my servos are digital (HiTec) I likely, although I have no memory of doing it, set the receiver to high speed. Problem is, Futaba Does not like non-Futaba digital servos, and does not operate them properly.
Now, if you are looking at the receiver when you first power it up, the little light starts as orange, then changes to red. That tells you, if looking, you are in High Speed mode.
Non Futaba digital servos chatter, get very hot, don't hold center, don't always work, and seem to drain the battery pack quickly, like 500ma per flight.
SOOOO, if you are having servo problems, check the little light. Thanks Cool.

Receiver in the plane is a 6208. Part of my "testing" was to try a 6108..
