DLE seems to be the most common for that size.
Probably because they're one of the most inexpensive, and are fairly well manufactured. |

I have 2 TOC53's in the 50cc class, but would have bought DLE had I been smarter. Have a 30 and a 35 in DLE - great engines.
Of course, the TOC's a great engine as well until you have to work on the carb!!! >:( :o Go DLE!! |

And one more for DLE. Good bang for the buck.

Looks like dle is popular. I did look at DA but at almost $900 +tax...
So, 50cc ok for a 25lb 80+ws plane? Or shoukd i look at 55-60cc? |

Astroflight ??????? Isn't that the Jetson's dog ? ;D Marc, you're in the ballpark with the 50cc in a plane that size. If performance is your thing you could probably go up to as high as an 80cc for outrageous power. |

As long as the aircraft isn't really heavy I would think a 55 would be ok. I have a Yak 87" weighing around 19-20 lb with a 55 on a pitts muffler that will do IMAC and mild 3D without any problem. |

Marc, my small Hurricane of "ESM" fame was 19 pounds and flew great on a 35R, didn't much go over 60 % throttle...

Mark,
The choice you make now can influence your choices in the future assuming, you want to transfer the engine to other models. As previously mentioned, the 55cc is an excellent fit for your immediate needs. However, you could have more flexibility down the road with an engine size slightly larger (61cc). This size engine (IMHO)can get you over the tipping point of the 55cc class and provide more model choices. |
Title: Re: 50cc gas engine Post by yorcram on Dec 10th, 2016 at 10:33am
The model i am considering calls for a 35-60cc engine and is about 25lb. It flew on 35cc but was marginal apperantly. Someone built it electric with a 50cc equivalent motor. Stated it was ok but needed a little more for good sport flying.
A 60cc looks like a good idea. After some of the engine issues I had the past few years i want to stay away from the no name brands but dont know enough about different large engine brands. |

EME 60 or 70 twin (70 is new )
DLE 60 twin Smoother If you have space Eme is developing a good reputation But the warranty suggests there may still be issues |

Mark,
Im trying to decide between the dle55ra and the 61cc also, both rear exhaust and comes with pitts style muffler... for a 50cc Extra I have the dle20 and it starts and ran right out of the Box, literally ::) |
Title: Re: 50cc gas engine Post by Glen on Dec 10th, 2016 at 8:47pm
told ya Jack :)
Marc, dle, da,eme, mvvs, toc, 3w, zdz, and probably a few I've missed all seem to do pretty good. Dle and eme are probably the most economy minded of the bunch. |

I ordered a 1/4 scale kit and a DLE61 for next years build ;)
I see in Sandy's hurry (or not so hurried) thread that some are using hitec645 servos. I just ordered 6 from thunderboltrc as they are 25% off. What else should be used on a 1/4 scale 25lb plane? Thinking on a power system for safety but need more info/opinions. |

I have the EME 55 in my Zero without any issues. Runs and works well but it only has 30 or so flights.

Mark, in my HO, the big draw with the power systems is the ability to use 2 battery packs..
