Title: Warbird formation flying
Post by dano on Jun 29th, 2014 at 3:19pm
We need to continue developing our warbird formation flying.
It obviously adds a bit more interest as opposed to general flying.
Perhaps picking a date/time/place to continue developing our skills would be of interest to those involved....
Any takers/suggestions?

You can count me in on that.  That's a hoot!

We'll see how many are interested.
I have some thoughts on formation manoeuvres that won't increase the risk factor anymore then five aircraft in the sky at one time in any fun fly.

- for example, aircraft fly in single file upwards with(150ft)
separation and each performs a split S then proceeds
to fly downward I single file to a high speed pass
over the runway at low altitude.

I have a few other manoeuvers in mind if we get the interest...
The Avon club field may be a good location to do this...

Except that we have a 3 plane flying rule.

I can see it now.
A P51 squadron and a Spitfire squadron .

We did years ago with smaller Spitfires: Dave Smith, Fred Coyle and myself. One guy would lead and the other two were wingman and stayed behind the leader.Worked quite well and I can't remember us having any problems but we did practice back in the Stanley Days.

Yes it occurred to me just after I posted.
Will have to make some inquiries...may have to do this elsewhere.

Three at a time is always an option

Whatever it takes to make it happen will be worthwhile.  To me there is nothing cooler than seeing a group of warbirds flying together.  Some of the passes at Truro were right out of the picture books.
