Title: MY 50cc Post by Fingers on Oct 17th, 2012 at 4:20pm
Obviously my 50 CC tends to crap out at inopportune moments, usually during contests...while checking things over I found the bearing in the canister exhaust is plugged up and not running smooth any more - any ideas how i can fix this ?? 8-)

Man I was kinda thinking the bearing was clogged up because I didn't use prop wash to clean and protect it. But I'm also wondering if it will help if this time I get a ceramic muffler bearing. Expensive I know, but i kinda want to stop this cutting out.
Another thread said I'd have trouble getting the old bearing out, but even more getting the new in.... don't want to be stuck with an upside down bearing :-/ I guess you have to be pretty careful engaging the pittman return spring :-? |

I've learned the hard way to use a reverse induction capacitor tube when inserting the pitman return spring ... lost three canister bearings before I heard of this trick. As Al said, it wasn't cheap. >:( Be sure to use a top quality lubricant. Either of the two below will work well.

Thanks for the tip on the reverse induction capacitor tube Steve. I'd almost made a big mistake and used a Bi-Phedral Phase Shifter.... man that might have been nasty..the lube advise is super as well..

Almost all of my muffler bearings have plugged up in the past. The trick is to mix sand and metal filings with the fuel...about 5% filings and 3% sand does the trick. With this mixture, oil is not needed. The filings will deposit a protective coating on the bearings' flux rectifiers and the sand will grand away any excess buildup from previously used, unnecessary 2 stroke oils. If this doesn't work, try mixing some nitroglycerin in with the fuel...but make sure you get the shock proof nitro glycerin.
As a last resort, you could try changing your ignition timing from 28 degrees before TDC to about 180 degrees before TDC. This will create a transverse pressure wave that will also help prevent muffler bearing seizures. |

I'm glad you specified changing the timing as a last resort Marc....doing that AND using the nitro mix would be a bit extreme....
the other possibility is to get a bearing made from tachyon...should run pretty fast without crapping. |

The best bearings are not creamic. The best bearings are made of unobtanium. |
